There’s no such thing as a typical teenager
That’s the whole point of being a teenager, being atypical! And there’s no typical way to write for them either. This course will investigate ways to be the best kind of atypical, keeping your writing fresh and challenging and avoiding writing books for teenagers that only adults like. Brief samples or outlines of work would be welcome.

Patrick Ness is the author of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, the Booktrust Teenage Prize and was short-listed for the Carnegie Medal. The final volume is published May 2010.
Celia Rees has written many novels for children and teenagers, including Witch Child, Sorceress, and Pirates! which were short-listed for major awards. Her latest, Sovay, was published in paperback in 2009.
