Beyond a joke
Focusing on developing exciting new approaches to the classic sitcom format, this course will encourage writers to cultivate a strong, individual comic voice. There will be practical sessions involving brainstorming, table readings of students’ work and polishing of scripts. It will also focus on the key stages of getting your script from raw idea to final draft.

Graham Duff wrote all 47 episodes of BBC3’s Ideal, starring Johnny Vegas and three series of Radio 4’s sci-fi sitcom Nebulous starring Mark Gatiss. He is also the script editor on Count Arthur Strong’s Radio Show.
James Payne is an award-winning screenwriter. His credits include ITV1’s Moving Wallpaper starring Ben Miller, BBC3 comedy drama Grease Monkeys and Eastenders – where he slayed six characters in a seven-year reign of terror.
David Nobbs has written many TV series including Reginald Perrin and A Bit of a Do, four TV plays and sixteen novels to boot. He has also written for The Two Ronnies, Ken Dodd, Les Dawson, Frankie Howerd and Tommy Cooper.
