Join us for a week focussed on practical choices playwrights make about space, time and action, the forming of stage images, the poetics of dialogue, portraying complex characters and optimising the key elements of a play.

Meredith Oakes, born in Australia, came to England in 1970. Her first play was The Neighbour (National Theatre). Recent work includes Shadowmouth (Crucible Sheffield) and Scenes from the Back of Beyond (Royal Court Theatre Upstairs).

Steve Waters's plays have been produced by the Donmar Warehouse, Sheffield Crucible and Hampstead Theatre and include World Music, The Unthinkable (both Nick Hern) and the forthcoming Fast Labour. He runs the MPhil(B) in Playwriting at Birmingham University.

Robert Holman has written more than thirty plays, including Making Noise Quietly, Across Oka, Rafts and Dreams, and Holes in the Skin, for The Bush, The Royal Court and The Royal Shakespeare Company.
