Dan Pavitt worked for an insurance broker in the City of London from 1985 - 1998. He waded through the quagmire of Marine and Aviation insurance and emerged coughing and spluttering – almost physically choked by the mediocrity of it all. By this time he was quite unbearable to live with, so his wife started applying for jobs on his behalf. Unexpectedly alive again, he spent three happy years working at Barnet College in North London, and became PA to the Principal. Having learnt how to change jobs he went a step further in 2001, re-locating for the first time in his life - to South Shropshire. For two years he brought “IT into the Community” as a project administrator at Ludlow College before Arvon made a new writing house on his doorstep. The opportunity was too good to pass up…
