The Arvon Foundation is committed to:

• encouraging creative writing and supporting creative writers
• advocating writing and nurturing young writers
• increasing participation from schools, in both urban and rural locations
• securing sustained funding for education activity
• offering grants and fundraising to keep access open to all

Since Arvon’s inception in 1968, we have provided four-and-a-half day residential creative writing courses for groups of up to 16 students from schools or colleges. Taught by two full-time professional writers courses include group workshops and one-to-one tutorials for every student.

Courses encompass a wide range of genres, including poetry, short stories, writing for TV, journalism, and dramatic dialogue.

At the end of the course, the students read perform their work to one another and an anthology of their writing is produced.

Prices of courses vary depending on your school’s circumstances but thanks to the charitable support of individuals, trusts and foundations we can give support to help some schools make our courses more affordable. In some cases we can work with schools to secure grants to cover the whole course fee.
