About us

Arvon is a charity that works to ensure anyone can benefit from the transformative power of writing. We offer life-changing creative experiences to anyone who writes, from beginners to established published writers, from school age upwards, from all backgrounds.
Open Courses
We run a vibrant annual programme of weekly residential courses, open to the public, and tutored by leading writers in genres from poetry to fiction to script writing, at our secluded rural centres. Come on our five day writing courses at Arvon, and you will find yourself living, working and eating in a historic writing house in an inspirational countryside setting.
Grants for Courses
Arvon is for everyone, including those who cannot afford the fees. Our grants scheme offers awards to cover some or all of the fee and around a quarter of all course participants receive some support.
Schools and Partnerships
About a third of our courses are dedicated weeks with groups from a wide range of schools, youth and community groups and arts organisations, many from the most disadvantaged communities in the UK. These weeks ignite a lifelong love of imaginative writing, build self-confidence and language skills, and help to develop the creative voice of each participant.
Arvon is the single most important organisation for sharing and exploring creative writing in the UK
Carol Ann Duffy

I did Arvon when I was about 20 and it was a tectonic, life-changing experience.
