Arvon is a charity that seeks to develop the perfect environment for creativity and creative writing to thrive. Since its foundation in 1968, Arvon's courses and retreats have helped thousands of individuals to begin a creative journey of self-discovery and imagination through writing.
We run a vibrant annual programme of weekly residential courses, open to the public, and tutored by leading writers in genres from poetry to fiction to script writing, at our secluded rural centres. Come on our five day writing courses at Arvon, and you will find yourself living, working and eating in a historic writing house in an inspirational countryside setting.
Grants for Courses
Arvon is for everyone, including those who cannot afford the fees. Our grants scheme offers awards to cover some or all of the fee and around a quarter of all course participants receive some support.
Schools and Partnerships
About a third of our courses are dedicated weeks with groups from a wide range of schools, youth and community groups and arts organisations, many from the most disadvantaged communities in the UK. These weeks ignite a lifelong love of imaginative writing, build self-confidence and language skills, and help to develop the creative voice of each participant.
